I was an emo puppet failure on America’s Got Talent

A few years ago, I brought my 10 piece emo puppet band, Fragile Rock, from Austin to Los Angeles to appear on America’s Got Talent. The results…never aired. Ready to find out why? You can read the full piece I wrote for the Austin Chronicle about what has been to date the most cringy 😬public fail I’ve ever experienced as a comic or musician. Funny enough, this cathartic article has turned into one of my favorite things I’ve gotten to write. Sometimes you have to push through a disaster by owning your failures and rebuild to better things. Also pretty sure I most definitely broke some NDA* to write this article. 🤷🏻‍♂️

*My 100% favorite and for real part of the NDA I signed for America’s Got Talent included a section saying I or any other member in the band wouldn’t run for political office within a year of appearing on the show. Well played, AGT. You’ve thwarted my presidential run!

So if here’s a quick behind the scenes peek of what happens when a comic from Austin brings an emo puppet band to a nationally televised reality talent show in Los Angeles. (Spoiler, it goes about as well as you think) If you’re up to relive the entire Nick Cannon-shoe-gazing, Simon-Cowell-hating surreal ride, click on the snuck-on-set image below :
